119K!!!! Sweeeeeet!!!!! How in the world can you vote no against this contract when they're giving us 119K at top pay? Automatic longevity, unlike other states which freeze you with a negative rating. This is automatic raises for all AND YOURE STILL BITCHING? Huhh????? The 119K is separate from the $$$ coming in slowly too. Who cares we don't get it right away. Yea, let's turn down automatic raises for all to 119K. Morons!!!

    Chaz, et al....

If we only look at the money, this might pass....IF WE ARE STARVING. But if we look at the concessions, the only vote is "NO". Specifically, the way ATR's will be treated under this fascist regime. Per the UFT machine, "the process for removing ATRs for behavior inconsistent with expectations established for professionals will be expedited". What the *$%%^& does that mean? Nothing specific, entirely up to the interpretation of everyone except US.
Why are ATRs being targeted SPECIFICALLY??????

Vote NO, and vote against unity.

Wow, just read the contract. Teacher get between 1 and 10 weeks severance. That is pathetic. Also, ATR rule...Successive is considered any time in 2 consective school years. So if I get 2 file letters in 2 years for nonsense I have a good chance to get fired asap. What a joke. And no per session raises and retro?

I think the steady progression of funds is good. We would have never seen a contract as fair as this under Quinn, Weiner, or any of the other candidates... let alone the Republican challenger. Bloomberg is probably hyperventilating!
    Vote Yes.

STINKS. This "raise" does not enter into our final average salaries towards pension. They know what they are doing, but do the teachers know? The $1,000 to ratify will entice the new younsters into voting for this horrible contract. Vote NO!

  10. Anonymous5:24 PM

This whole contract is insulting. Not having the "raise" appear in our salaries at the time from 2009 through now greatly negatively impacts our final average salaries. Offering the $1,000 bribe may unfortunately entice the youngsters to the system to ratify this terrible contract. Vote NO,

2 file letters in 2 years for an ATR equals firing. the cobntarct reads very different from what Mulgrew said. Contract says "problematic." What does that mean? And successive means any time over 2 school years. That could be any type of nonsense. And if they want us to eave they give us that garbage buyout.

When you look at the numbers, and see the huge bump you get in just four years, it is AMAZING!!! NO ONE, and no one can deny that. However, the ATR 2 strikes rule will prevent me from voting yes. I recently realized that ANYONE can become an ATR at ANY TIME. A principal has lots and lots of power to make things happen. So sad for the ATR's.

Thank you for appreciating our ( ATR ) situation and voting no. Contract seems very dangerous and this is based on the UFT rep that came to speak about it. May have no rights by 2020.

Are you sure this is correct??? I was told that if you retired before June 15 you would get the furst two raises , the four and four, as retro upon retirement. Amy Arundel told me this.

Am getting messages we may be making contributions to health care of up to 2% of salary. This would apply to anyone along over 60k. It starts at 30-40k at 0.5%. This directly contradicts things we've been hearing.

Harris Lirtzman on the big lie:

Am getting messages that Point 4 of a highly technical summary of the proposed changes to the municipal health care plan included in the proposed UFT contract and approved yesterday by the Municipal Labor Council appears to require that an RFP be issuedon July 1 for new plans to be implemented on July 1, 2015 (Michael Bloomberg had planned to issue such an RFP but the plan was halted after the Municipal Labor Council got a court ruling overturning plans to release it) and that Point 10 allows for employee contributions to health care coverage starting at .5% of salary for members earning between $30,000 and $40,000, 1% of salary between $40,000 and $50,000, 1.5% of salary between $50,000 and $60,000 and 2% of salary above $60,000.

If any of this is true (and the paper is in many peoples' hands right now) and any of it is actually put into effect it constitutes a direct and bad faith representation by our leadership about what this contract settlement really includes

  19. The scale is based upon the negotiated raises announced by the UFT. Is it exact? Maybe, maybe not, but its pretty close. Read my "simplifying the raises" post to see how we get the increases.

As for the rest of the comments, I'm waiting for the MOA.

Is Mulgrew’s sister still being investigated by the department of investigations or was that part of this ethically challenged deal? She was working for a firm that was taking jobs away from UFT members.

It's the ATR's against everyone. In my school, everyone is mostly voting yes. I'd say of the 50ish people I've spoken to casually, 45 were Yes. All ATR's were No. So it's basically 98%-2%, plus the older angry crowd of non ATR's. So it's probably 90%-10%. I asked my AP if she could give me the mastercteachervposition at 20K. She said she'd consider it. I then said I'd give her half at 10 K, we could split it. She said that sounded better. This is going to be amazing. Money flying around everywhere. Plenty if favoritism. Lots of people making huge money. Top pay in 2018 plus per session and merit pay can easily bring 150K.

What members need to see is a pay scale with the 4% and 4%. Then compare the two scales and see which one they like better. If you like the 4% and 4$ pay scale better vote NO on the contract. Chaz perhaps you can come up with a pay scale that has the 4$ and 4%. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous8:55 AM

YES you have to wait 4 more years. Your salary will go up every year for four years starting now. And yes you will get 5 lump sum payments for all the back pay ranging from 20,000-40,000. So please don't complain about money.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous9:03 AM

    The atrs should stop complaining.
As a severence they are going to give you your full pay plus retro.
For a senior person that is 110000 for not working. You have to be crazy not except that. Vote yes.

Just called the Retiree Chapter of the UFT and asked one simple question. Will recent retires be included. I women started saying "we don't know" repeatedly. As a former Non Unity Chapter Leader and former ATR as well as recent retiree, if they don't know their own contract, how can you trust them. I can't vote and the retires probably will be included. However, I tell them to keep their blood money and encourage the active teachers to vote NO. Can we finally stick together?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous1:50 PM

It appears for those of us retiring this year or next the FAS will be based on the current salary chart. This means that we have worked the past five years for only a few pennies that will be added to our pensions. Mulgrew and company exceeded our worst expectations all around with this contract proposal. Vote No and sent him a message.

Hope you're not a math teacher cause you sure can't count. And I take offense with your stipulation that we do NOTHING> Try to control classes of 34 strange students 5 to 6 periods a day every single day. Then open your mouth! Ass.

I went to the delegate vote tonight, Mulgrew actually said the expedited 3020A hearings only for ATRs are a good thing, because it would clear the air faster. What a pinhead.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I just called the Retiree Unit at the UFT and asked the person who answered the phone if recent retirees were included in the retro and will the FAS be adjusted. Previous blogs from those I trust like Chaz and Eterno said yes. This women continuously and nervously stated "we don,'t know. It would be laughable if it wasn't such as disgrace. As a 2013 retiree, and onetime ATR vote, NO. Whether the retires are included or not, vote NO. Can't this union stick together for once. Enjoy the mathematical pay decrease if it's ratified.

    Chaz,

I do not see any mention of this scenario in the MOA:

Anyone who Retires Before July 1, 2014 Wins Big----
The winners in this deal are anyone who retired from 2009 through now and anyone else who retires by July 1, 2014. They will get all of their retro pay calculated and get it at once. People who already retired will have their pensions recalculated as well as receiving retro payments for the time they worked.

    What happened?

    Thanks

The contract isn't bad at all if you are a teacher at top salary or close to it. As usual, though, paras continue to get zippo. No monetary incentives, save the one lousy grand, which doesn't even cover my rent. As para in District 75, where we are horribly exploited, I urge ALL paras to vote no, and believe me, if we all do, it will not go through
