A union investigation of teacher turnover rates for the two year period between October 2014 and October 2016 shows a much higher teacher turnover rates at the Renewal Schools than for the New York City Public Schools teacher turnover rate
The UFT report found that for the 78 Renewal Schools investigated, the average teacher turnover rate for the two years was 40%, compared to a 23% for all public schools. The report was summarized in Chalkbeat and found the following factors that contributed to the high teacher turnover rates at the Renewal Schools.
- Difficult;t teaching conditions
- Intense pressure to show academic achievement.
- Unstable and poor school administrative leadership.
- Sagging enrollment.
- Low teacher morale
- Poor academic performance.of the mostly level 1 student body.
Of the 73 Renewal Schools investigated, 50 of the schools had a two year teacher turnover rate of 33% or greater Add that to a mostly "newbie" teaching staff. who have a steep learning curve to become a quality teacher, the mostly level 1 student body, and you have a recipe for failure, the Renewal Schools!
For ATRs, there is one bright spot in the Renewal School saga. The Chancellor, Carmen Farina, has ordered the DOE not to "force place" ATRs in the Renewal Schools, what a lucky break for us.
No forced placements - but what about rotations? Great way to screw over ATRs, have them in a renewal school and send in the field assassins for drive-by observations. I fully expect the DOE to drive many of us (ATRs & veteran teachers) this year in to early retirement or outright resignations so that the city saves $$$ on pensions and "retro" payments.
ReplyDeleteThese Fiel Supervisors are coming with a dirty agenda to terminate us.

ReplyDeleteIt is clearly all about age discrimination.
DeleteATRs are still being sent there in the rotation, just not getting a program.
ReplyDeleteI hear there is lots of turmoil at HR with ATRS getting incorrect placements! What is going on?
ReplyDeleteI just learned I'm being sent to Stuyvesant.
ReplyDeleteLucky you, Clovis. I'm being sent to a lower level of hell in the Bronx. I'm dreading Monday morning. I'm being rotated into a renewal school out of my licensed grade level. I know two ATRs that will be dead by June from the non-stop abuse. They can't retire. One is hoping it'll be on the job so his family will get a little more money. The UFT is offering $1600 fo knock on members doors and convince them to stay in the union. Whoever knocks at my door should prepare themselves. If you want me to stay in the union end fair student funding, which will end the ATR pool. Otherwise you can all go fuck yourselves.
ReplyDeleteThe tone is to harass and push out veteran teachers so they can close the school, and hire newbies.
ReplyDeleteThe Union Allows this BS, It is Horrible what they are doing to us. I am presently in a school where I am helping them in a number a of ways, they need me there, they want me to stay. I was rotated to some school I never heard of a distance away from where I reside. I plan to retire after Thanksgiving anyway, but the Stupidity of what they do to us, it is unreal! So for the next 15 Days I will play their idiotic game. I truly feel for my colleagues who have to deal with this BS for the years they have left until they can get out. If I was in a perfect school, I would still retire in December, that was my plan even before I became an ATR. The harassment, towards the ATR's all of the pettiness sucks, but what is even worse is that the Union we pay dues to allows this Crap to continue!!!! Shame on Them!
ReplyDeleteThey are focusing on getting rid of teachers, instead of letting teachers teach.
ReplyDeletelisten to all the crybabies!!! I think they should raise the union dues so the whinning gets louder and funnier. chancellor dipshit is collecting a fortune between salary AND pension. why is she the only old educator allowed to benefit. unless we get together for 1 cause the abuse will always be allowed to continue. until then keep the crying on full blast.
ReplyDeleteTo 5:28, I envy you and hope to make it to retirement like you. I read that only 30% of teachers in NYC actually do make it to that finish line. I have about 7 years. I hope I make it.
ReplyDeleteDoes rule of 72 work for inflation?
ReplyDeleteDoes it work how much your money in the future?
Is There a formula for future value?
It takes 10.28 years for your money to double.72/7%
3% inflation 72/3=24 years your money is worth halved.
So we get 7% and in 20 years our money quaduples.
WOW TDA.
Is my math right
