How Many DOE Employees Have The Coronavirus?

Yesterday the NYPD stated that more than 200 of it's employees have the conronavirus. However, the DOE has not seemed fit to do the same.  Yet hundreds, if not thousands of students go into the schools every day to obtain free breakfast and lunch and are exposed to the coronavirus.

These children are lined up without any social distance restrictions and can infect each other and the adults supervising and handing out food.  Are the adults checked for the coronavirus?  I doubt it.  Are the schools sanitized daily?  Yeah right. How many students show up with symptoms of the flu or the coronavirus?   Who knows.

What about the two principals at the Brownsville high school building who either died or is in the ICU for coronavirus?  How many people in the building did they affect last week when the Mayor and Chancellor forced them to stay in the building? No wonder the DOE doesn't want the public to know what the coronavirus count is. The article on the first Principal who died of the coronavirus is Here.

There tends to be a secrecy when it comes to schools. The mayor and chancellor tend to want to provide a false image of what truly goes on in schools. The inflated grades, the lack of attendance policy, there is a lack of statistics for allowing schools to remain open and unsanitized for staff and students, the lack of social distancing during this pandemic, etc. The mayor and chancellor don't want to be blamed for the mismanagement of students which are the future of this society - help us all.

I wish people would stop pointing fingers at Carranza and Di Blassio when Cuomo agreed with them to keep the schools open up until the 11th hour. He could have easily closed the schools but was afraid of losing hospital staff, so our little hero Cuomo is to blame too.

  4. My wife works at that school where the principal died...she is understandably freaked out as we have a toddler son and we have no real way to self-isolate.

DOE allowing chaos, infection, and death to flourish among the staff/employees

Yes, Cuomo is to blame, but Cuomo at least stated that he thought schools should close and de Blasio continued to state the schools would remain open. Cuomo realized closure was necessary, but de Blasio continued to drag.

4:45: Doesn't matter. If he were really concerned, Cuomo would have given the order to close the schools.

LET'S BE CLEAR HERE-DEBLASIO, CARRANZA ARE TO BLAME. However, SO IS MIKE MULGREW AND HIS WEAK UFT TEAM! AFTER THIS IS DONE WE NEED NEW LEADERSHIP FOR OUR UNION. I support WELL RUN unions and currently the UFT IS NOT WELL RUN. THE UFT our union, SHOULD HAVE PROTECTED US FROM THE
    TERRIBLE NYC LEADERSHIP Decisions.

There's an article in the Post in which Di Blassio said that half of New Yorkers will have contracted COVid-19 by the fall.

Was Mike Mulgrew even aware of the immense damage having staff report back for three additional days would cause like the politicians were? Did he have this type of information?

As long as you pay dues to the UFT, nothing will change.

Is this a place where teachers come to whine and complain?

9:04 Mulgrew knew. Read last 2 lines of the quote below. Mulgrew cared about the UFT paying fines. He put a price tag on our lives.
UFT officials told union representatives Saturday to "advise against" a planned call out on Monday.

“A coordinated sick-out will be interpreted by the DOE as an organized effort in violation of the Taylor Law and the Triborough Law,” union officials wrote its leaders.

“They will perceive it as a labor action and strike. Each participant is subject to a fine of two days’ pay for every missed day and arrest. However, even worse, the UFT will suffer greatly with fines and penalties. Please advise against.”

I do not understand the complaints against the UFT for this specific situation. The only reason the schools closed when they did was because of pressure from the UFT and negotiations with the hospital union by the UFT. The UFT did not have the power to unilaterally shut down the schools, what they did have the power to do was put pressure on DeBlasio, which they did. You guys really do not understand the purpose of unions or how they work in the real world.

Hope everyone is well and safe. I know it might not be popular to bring up in the moment, but one thing I am wondering is how the aftermath of all this will affect raises, pensions, promised and contracted retro, future contracts. I don't foresee a new contract for a long, long time. Could it be possible that contracted raises, retro and pensions could be affected by all this due to the reality of revenue loss?

9:14am-OUR UNION THE UFT DID HAVE THE POWER TO ADVICE MEMBERS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AND STAY HOME. EVEN IF WE WERE DOCKED 2 DAYS FOR EVERY ONE OFF WE WOULD HAVE WON THAT IN COURT BECAUSE WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE SAFE AND HEALTHY.

TELL ME 9:14AM WHAT GOOD ARE SAVED CAR DAYS IF WE ARE DEAD OR IF WE MIGHT HOME OR WE BRING IT HOME AND KILL OUR FAMILY?

WAKE UP THE UFT IS TO BLAME FOR NOT ADVISING THEIR MEMBERS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES.

    @9:14
The UFT closed the schools for students and sat silently while a three day training went on in them, after they were closed. My friend is seriously ill because of that training. I will opt out of the UFT in June during the allotted time period. Mulgrew is a disgrace. The UFT is not a union. A union does not allow its members to be intentionally endangered and prioritize money over its rank and file. I advise all teachers to pull their dues until the UFT starts to work for its members.

@3:27 PM - Sorry to hear about your friend. Gain a different perspective when it hits close to your heart. I did not go in for two of those days. Did not feel well. Under normal circumstances I would have gone in, but not knowing if I was infected kept me from going in. Many went in perhaps with no symptoms at all and could pass it on and give it to someone that may not be so lucky.

  22. Leadership in New York is a disgrace, the biggest city which brings in the most revenue and highest taxes should have billions of money to be used.

Diblasio wastes 750 million on his wifes mental health plan. No reason nyc should not have extra masks as well.

Cuomo misplaced and spent billions recklessly including 750 million for this solar pan deal which was terrible. Cuomo didnt pay for 16,000 ventilators in 2016. Obama who did a disgraceful job during h1n1 when the media was shhhhhhhhhh quiet did not restock the ventilators.

If we are the city to most be attacked and have people in such proximity our mayor and governor should have contigency plans but of course they do not because they are horrible people and leaders.

Many questions need to still be asked and answered...

    1. Will the teachers upn for tenure this year be told, "Sorry, I didn't have sufficient time to observe you this year, so I am extending your probationary period"?

    2. If a principal pulls that shit, will the UFT fight back and say to the DOE " If intended teacher "A" cannot be objectively rated, how can all the other staff receive year end ratings?

    3. What about the teachers who are now on an extended probationary period?

    4. The NYSESLAT has been cancelled. That was one of the default measures of my school. So now what?

    5. Are we going to revert back to "S" or "U" like before the Danielson nightmare? Or will all teachers be rated "NR" Not Rated for this year due to the current situation?

    6. Administrators are now telling us that they will be " visiting" our classes electronically. "Don't worry, we'll let you know when we're coming." Yeah, and I'm Snow White!

    7. Is the UFT going to complain/ be ready to go to Court,What about Ope Market when Napoleon, I mean Carranza, and the failed Presidential candidate tell us in the summer that no October retro checks will go out because we simply don't have the money "? You know that is coming! Meanwhile, that is MY money that they have been sitting on and collecting a vig for years, when it should be earning 7 points a year in my TDA for me!

    8. What about Open Market if we are shuttered for the balance of the school year?

    9. What about Summer School? If there is none, can the UFT guarantee that teachers with retention rights will not lose those rights as those mmonies are pensionable?

WOW:I think I can tell where you're getting your news... Go out, enjoy yourself, this is a hoax.

I'm not sure what a solar pan is? Is it something like a tin foil hat? "Some people say those prevent the Covid19, did you hear that, "some people are saying it."

Get your facts straight on 16k ventilators. I heard most hospitals already have 1 or 2? Did you hear that? Some people say those big hospitals in big cities have 1 or 2 already.

Why is it a priority to pay 3 billion for oil to fill the reserve, but not to purchase ventilators for 1 billion? #bloodon45

Isn't this a teaching blog? You see where this is going?

Deblasio is 100 percent to blame. He is one of the worst mayors ever. Could not make a decision. Mulgrew and UFT are idiots also to blame. They are too much in bed with Deblasio and were afraid to speak out. CSA principals' union president was getting hit with many complaints from principals. Principals kept emailing him because teachers were very concerned and going to principals. Here is how it went down:

Mark the CSA president flipped out. Lost it. He tweeted or had his people tweet and email principals to start demanding schools close. Mulgrew the follower undecided kiss ass then saw Mark had balls. He then decided he should grow half a ball. So Mulgrew started yelling like a little girl - close schools.

Cuomo then realized Deblasio is moron. I will need to close schools. Deblasio like a little bitch started crying and said "but nobody died yet and I am hitting the gym". Then reluctantly Deblasio closed schools.
