Why Is Namita Dwarka Still A Principal?

Here we go again.  Another potential scandal has reared its ugly head at William Cullen Bryant High School as the 33 year old assistant principal, Pelgia Papoutsis, was removed from the school as a former female student accused her of having a sexual relationship with her when the girl was 17 years old.  While, the accusations are just that, accusations, the troubling part is that the girl claimed that the Principal, Namita Dwarka, was aware of the relationship between the assistant principal and the student and never reported it as mandated by the DOE.  Whether the accusation is true or not, the Principal was required to report the suspicious relationship to the Special; Commissioner of Investigations (SCI) and did not.

This is not the first time that Principal Dwarka's actions at the school came under fire.  You just need just to look at the many issues associated with the Principal.  Here, Here, Here, and Here.

According to sources she goes after the veteran teachers and forces them to retire and has reassigned, pending his 3020-a hearing. a popular physical education teacher and coach who is a whistleblower.  Ms. Dwarka is, as you might expect, is a "Leadership Academy Principal" who has shown time and again that her personal priorities are more important than what's best for the students.  She was also accused of financial mismanagement and according to the New York Post there is $195,000 unaccounted for and yet the DOE has taken no action.  Moreover, teachers at the school accused Ms. Dwarka of grade changing without their approval and the DOE did nothing about that either.  Finally, she is a known bully and goes after veteran teachers who don't kiss her ass and if your a highly qualified ATR you will not be hired, she would rather hire an uncertified teacher than select an ATR.

The DOE double standard when disciplining teachers and administrators is very evident when it comes to the checkered history of Principal Namita Dwarka of William Cullen Bryant High School.

Maybe the UFT, the Mayor and the Chancellor want Ms. DWARKA to get rid of all the veteran teachers, so it will be good for the budget.

Maybe the Chancellor likes these types of principals. Why would they keep her for 5 years?

Maybe Dwarka can remove the other 25% of the veteran staff that is left. UFT where are you lol. What a union! More corrupt than the DOE.

Maybe she knows where they've hit the bodies

And maybe the matter needs to be called to the attention of the Commissioner of Education.

Although the following appeal was dismissed, it provides some insight:

I agree with earlier reply re: corruption. I've been talking with insiders in other unions. Opinion is UFT is *the* most corrupt in our city. Apparently, this is widely believed. Time for membership to wake up.

The UFT has not ssid anything while.veteran teachers are being attacked.

The UFT plays stupid like they don't know whats going on. That alone explains how corrupt they are. That lasy contract also explains it all.

It's time to bring our union to its former glory and actually fight for teachers' rights! Too many teachers are being treated like second class teachers and the union is letting this happen! Come and read my blog at http://bronxnycteacher.blogspot.com/ and see how crazy some of our administrators can be! I have done my due diligence and yet the union has stood by and watched.

Society at large is just as much to blame.

Where are the parents? This school has 2,500 students. Why isn't each family calling Carmen Farina and Bill Deblasio every day? Do they expect teachers to risk retaliation for their children? How selfless of the teachers that would be, and how presumptuous of these parents.

Come on mom, dad, big sis, grandma, legal guardian, probation officer, whomever, get off your ass for a few minutes and advocate for your children. We have translators standing by...

With plummeting passing rates in the regents, age discrimination and retaliation against anybody speaking up. Why isn't removed? How can the staff do their work, and how can the students feel protected if this principal continues in charge? Is the UFT aware of any abuses going on against veteran teachers?

When is Fariña going to do her job? When are we going to put this shameful principal behind us?

Also why does Jose Cruz still have his job - most disgusting non person ever .

Mulgrew should be voted out, he is silent while many innocent eteran teachers in schools with abusive principals are getting hammered.

It is a disgrace that fraud, corruption, dishonesty, mismanagement of funds is permitted in schools like the one Dwarka manages. UFT is becoming a joke.

Fariña and these destructive principals should go.
