James Brown Is Back Once Again.

It  has come to my attention that James Brown is back on the DOE payroll.  Now he is assistant Superintendent under the infamous Juan Mendez.  For the uninformed, James Brown was an administrator on Long Island in Baldwin and was found guilty by a jury in a civil complaint of harassment and retaliation and cost the school money to settle the case.

Mr. Brown was removed from the Baldwin school in 2009 and was sent to the District office, away from the children, until he resigned in 2012.  Mr. Brown was also accused of saying sexually inappropriate comments. While at Baldwin, Brown was accused of remarking on the tightness of a female student’s pants, said a federal lawsuit against him.  He also said to the female dean to make a school report “tight as a virgin’s, well, you know what is tight on a virgin,” she reported.

In September 2013 a new Principal was appointed for the troubled Flushing High School and it was the one and only James Brown .  In a Walcott administration that claimed "zero tolerance" for sexual issues, James Brown was hired despite his past.  You can read it Here.

Mr. Brown lasted all of one year before being replaced and ended up in a DOE back office  before leaving for the charter schools and most people thought that was the end of James Brown.

Fast forward to 2018 and James Brown is now assistant superintendent for Juan Mendez.  How the hell did he get back into the DOE?

LOL!!! Just shows how screwed up the DOE is - the schools are out of control and guys like Mr. Brown are in charge. Chaz, you should visit any borough’s rubber room. All filled with veteran teachers accused by their principals of inappropriate behavior because they don’t want to pay their high salaries because of Fair Student Funding and the 90% budget. It’s out of control and no one talking about it, especially the UFT.

He held the same position last year as well.

I remember this guy. Before I started working for the Doe, I worked as a contract tutor for the Baldwin district. This guy was a total prick even back then too.

Apparently more than one ineffective administrator has come and gone from Baldwin high school. Caterina Lafergola was another administrator whose hiring sparked outrage.

Just one thing Chaz. Not to trivialize but it could not have been 2009 because I worked at Baldwin with Mr. Brown in 2010 where he was the principal of the inbound suspension center. These were students with behavior problems who were placed in an alternative environment throughout the year.

It was weird because there was basically a school within a school in the Baldwin District.

I worked for James Brown at FHS when he was principal. He was well liked and had the backing of the teachers, students and administrators. If there was any principal that could have saved that toxic waste dump of an excuse for a high school--it was him. Now FHS is on borrowed time and will probably last as long as DeBlasio is mayor (if the state does not intervene again next year). He was trying to leave his past behind and its unfortunate that it keeps coming back to haunt him. I think he deserves another chance.

BTW he was the best principal FHS has had (and they have had a lot in the last 9 years)

I have three friends in the rubber room. All are on top salary. Principal said one guy winked at her. Another screamed at his class and the third is accused of having a bulge in the front of his pants. I’m not kidding. All in different schools.

Chaz, excellent article. Sure anonymous 5:01, he might be trying to leave his past behind him, but why does he get to do so on a $148,789 salary while teachers get fired, or I/U rated with their 3020a scarlet letter, and then can't even earn per-session.

Plus, if you knew this guy, you would know he is a total Misogynist with a capital M. I know for certain that at Flushing, he would raise his voice at the Female Chapter Leader just when answering a question concerning a teacher.

So why does he get to shortly finish out his 30 years at and collect at least a 90k pension, when most DoE teachers will not make it that far, and only if they were lucky enough to join 25/55 do they have a prayer of collecting any decent pension at all?

I will tell you why- the higher ups cover their asses until pension time, then they can check-out and cha-ching!

@5:06
See if your 3 friends in the rubber room are going to participate in the Rubber Room Poker Tournament (RRPT). This year's RRPT already has 300 plus participant and we are expecting Deputy Chancellor Dorita "Ruth Steakhouse" Gibson to show up. If your friends are not participating have them contact me ASAP. I can sell their tickets at a reason price.

The NYC DOE is a joke. If this had been in private industry this man would have been terminated end of story. It amazes me how inept the people in charge are. Please don't get me started on we need principals and administrators that are the same ethnic representation of the students and neighborhoods they represent. It's a joke pure and simple....

To 4:24 - you are spot on.

To say we need 'diversity,' and then to say that people need others who 'look like them' to function are contradictory positions.

I’m not understanding. Why do YOU keep posting this man’s picture and bringing up old memories from a school district that was racist and did not want an AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN in charge of their district middle school. Chaz, if you are such a pillar of the NYCDOE movement and want things to change, what forums have you gone to? What town halls? Instead you spread hate and peoples picture on your site to rally up hate speech. This is disgusting. As a teacher, I’m disgusted and would rather see you speak out about real issues teachers in the classrooms face especially in communities where there are lower socioeconomic tiers and how we can support them. Teaching is about CHILDREN! PERIOD. NOT ABOUT SALARY AND EGO. AS A TEACHER, I FIND THIS BLOG NEEDS TO RECOGNIZE THAT. What about the schools?

Is having a teacher and principal look like you that much of a joke? No. Seeing a diverse representation of people in positions does matter. It lets others know that they can be whatever they want to be. It wouldn’t matter if all your life, people who looked like you held the power, you would be ready to just fall in line as receive.

There’s obviously some talent within this man if he continues to land on his feet. Leave him and his FAMILY alone and get back to the fact that more than half of the students in NYC are not reading at a proficient level? Or is that his fault too? Be an adovocate for kids not a biased agenda. Sick of you talking about him.

I would love to see a Chaz Book Drive or some charity tutoring work. Why don’t I see those pictures on this blog? All of these undeserving teachers who recieved U ratings for no reason, they should have some extra time on their hands to help you get that up and running.

James Brown is a nasty tyrant, I was an untenured teacher at MS 320 years ago and he was so nasty to me. He told me to sit my ass down before he writes me up for insubordination. I was trying to get away from him in his office because he keep yelling. I walked away nonetheless. He has a nasty mouth and he is arrogant. I hope he is gone for good.
