The Failure Of Our Union To Make Life Better For Their Members. Part V, PINI Principals.
One of the more obvious changes when Michael Mulgrew replaced Randi Weingarten as President of the UFT was that the union paper no longer wrote articles against vindictive principals, known as Principals In Need Of Improvement (PINI). This feature was one of the more popular articles in an otherwise uninformed and propaganda organ of the Unity caucus. Principals dreaded having their names splashed across a newspaper that most of the 78,000 union members read and gave many teachers the heads up about applying to those schools.
Why did the union change their position on PINI principals? Well, I can only tell you what a now retired union leader told me on why the New York Teacher newspaper discontinued the highly popular PINI principal articles. That union official said that the union leadership decided not to criticize a fellow union member (CSA). That's why terrible principals like Jose Cruz at Campus Magnet and Damita Dwarka at William Cullen Bryant continue to run their schools while our union leadership fails to organize protests and publize these cases. Its only when the local media picked up the story those the DOE reluctantly takes action while our disconnected union leadership stays quiet.
While Randi Weingarten was shamed into publishing some of these PINI principals and forcing the DOE to take action, our present leadership rather ignore the various abuses that far too many principals practice and put their members at risk for termination. What are we paying dues for?
Don't forget Ritter at arts and farts. Shame on him!!!!!
ReplyDeleteChaz, hate to burst your bubble, but the majority of teachers that I know do not read the UFT newspaper. Most teachers that I know are clueless and apathetic. I have been teaching for a very long time and I do know a lot of teachers so my opinion may be biased from my experience is still a relevant experience.

ReplyDeleteCompletely agreed. I think Chaz is referring to teachers from yesteryear. The teachers I know, even some veterans, couldn't care less what's going on as long as it does not impact THEM.
They happily go about their day in a complete bubble. The truly do not care what Mulgrew does or doesn't do.
I would like to suggest that most teachers are using all their energy to do their jobs, avoid the landmines. With what ever energy they have left they are doing their laundry, grocery shopping, paying their bills etc. and are HOPING the union, which they are paying to do their job, is doing just that. #compassionforteachers
DeleteThe. UFT in bed with the DOE are going to be exposed on the continuous basis all over the national media, until the destructie policies regarding Ms. DWARKA are well known and the fiasco of the turnaround model.
ReplyDeleteThe discriminatory practices against the most veteran teachers will not stop, until a class action lawsuit is filed.
ReplyDeleteThe principal from Bryant HS is now retaliating against a disabled woman by not giving her access to accommodations that were directed by the DOE. What is wrong with this principal? She has single handedly given the entire NYC educational system a terrible name. UFT are you alive or feasting on our bloooddd...I mean dues??!

This quote from albert einstein should be sent to all politicians to shove it up their dumb ass
Mulgrew and de Blasio are completely out of their minds. They are pulling metal detectors out of schools. Mulgrew should stop it before a student and/or teacher gets hurt or worse. All over the country schools are on high alert; in NYC they're pulling metal detectors out because it might remind some of the thugs of their last stint in Rikers. De Blasio is dangerous.
ReplyDeleteThey leadership principals are saving money by targeting the experienced teachers. The DOE must like them very much.
ReplyDeleteThe head of the security agents union is taking a strong stance against taking metal detectors out of schools. Mulgrew should join him. There are many dangerous schools that are not suspending students and are now pulling out metal detectors. Let's keep our schools safe.
ReplyDeleteNamita Dwarka continues to destroy William Cullen Bryant HS while Mulgroin and DiBozo have their heads up their asses.
ReplyDeleteHi Chaz,
ReplyDeleteYou have to check what happening on ths Forum the principal of ps34q John Harvard Principal Pauline Shakespeare. It seems the teachers have had enough. there are over 130+ comments detailing the severe abuse they are suffering. This is a must read and a story that needs to be told

According to comments made at meetings and in the current ATR NYC blog, Amy Arundel says there is no fair student funding and principals can permanently hire ATRs at the average teacher salary. What's going on? Amy says one thing, the principals and UFT says the opposite.
ReplyDeleteANON 753 : How about Farina?
ReplyDeleteHi Chaz,
ReplyDeleteI don't want to believe what everyone is saying about Arundel- that she is simply a liar. This is the person who is supposed to be our representative. I for one would like to hear your opinion on her recent comments on ATR NYC and at the annual borough meeting. Thanks.
The UFT is looking the other way, and the DOE of NYC is defending an abusive and destructive principal Ms. Dwarka. Thanks God we have free press and free speech! God bless America! Why are these tactics to push out veteran teachers allowed in NYC? Is it systemic age discrimination?
ReplyDeleteThe DOE of NYC will spent millions of dollars defending dishonest and abusive leadership principals, before they remove them.
ReplyDeleteMany lawsuits are going to be filed.
ReplyDeleteWhy is the Chancellor taking any action against, fraud, corruption and misuse of funds?
