SUNY Charter Board Approves The Use Of Inferior Instructors For Their Children.
Yesterday, SUNY's Charter Institute has approved a vastly inferior teacher certification process because their charter schools are having serious trouble hiring and retaining teachers. Therefore, to rectify the teacher shortage issue, they have approved the use of non-certified instructors in their schools. The SUNY certification process was criticized by the State Education Department's Commissioner and the Chancellor of the Board of Regents, also the UFT promised to file a lawsuit to stop the new regulations. Read the entire New York Times article Here. A slightly different take of the SUNY certification process can be found in Chalkbeat.
For people who are hired under the new SUNY charter school regulations, they are only allowed to teach in the SUNY charter schools and still must be State certified to teach elsewhere in New York State. Therefore, these SUNY approved charter school teachers will be stuck working for these charter schools until they become State certified, if ever.
The new SUNY teacher certification regulations will allow their charter schools to hire cheap, unqualified, and inferior instructors to teach their charter school students and that's not what's best for their students but is apparently best for the SUNY charter school operators who want an endless supply of cheap and replaceable instructors.
Please read my article about this Here.
Bottom line: These new charter school teachers will be looked at as the "security guards" of teachers while regularly certified teachers will be considered "real cops". In other words, this means that we, as regularly certified teachers just got a boost by this. Our regular certification means that we are a tad more valuable as of today. Not that I would ever, ever, want to work in a charter school, but as of today, any regularly certified teacher in NYS now will be considered a God in the charter world if they ever wanted to work there.
ReplyDeleteSo charter school teachers can teach without certification but I have to pay to get a masters plus 100 hrs of CTLE credits. This system is ass backward.
ReplyDeleteStop the madness. UFT most definitely needs to focus on this issue.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the NY Post. It has an article about parent rally against placing those in the ATR status into permanent positions. Didn't see the word pervert being used this time around. At least that word was not utilized.
ReplyDeletethe last school I was assigned to PS16 in wakefield had an uncertified PE teacher for the past 2 years. why is everyone shocked and shaken? in the suburbs lots of districts will let teaching assistants or people with associate degrees be subs. the system has been watered down for years, don't start crying now!
ReplyDeleteThere is no teacher shortage.
ReplyDeletePeople don’t want to work in charters bc of the demands placed on teachers that work there.
The teacher shortage nonsense is propaganda by colleges to keep enrollment up.
Corrupt corrupt corrupt and its amazing how much these people bend over backward for moskowitch and her fake cronies..corrupt corrupt corrupt and money talks.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow the AMA will have new standards for medical doctors in that you will only need to attend PS 12 for your medical license.
