The Consequences Of Mayor Bill de Blasio Keeping Bloomberg Holdovers At Tweed

When Bill de Blasio became Mayor of New York City, many hoped that the Bloomberg era policymakers at Tweed would have been forced to resign as he would "clean house".  Unfortunately. the Mayor appointed Carmen Farina as Chancellor and she retained 80% of the Bloomberg policymakers.  The result was the conflict between the DOE and teachers continued as teachers looked at the DOE as the enemy.

DOE policies like school-based "Fair Student Funding" which incentivizes principals to hire "the cheapest and not the best teachers" for their school.  Tight school budgets that was only funded at 90% of their appropriate funding.  The 1,000+ ATR pool that wastes $150 million dollars a year.   Finally, the continued hiring of incompetent and vindictive "Leadership Academy Principals" that , rather than collaborate with staff did the opposite and dictated to their staff.

However, the worst offense by the Bloomberg policymakers at the DOE was violating student privacy laws by giving student names and addresses to charter schools in violation of State and Federal privacy laws.  By giving the charter schools public school student names and addresses, the charter schools,  armed with this knowledge they were able to pick off students that were not English Language Learners and did not need Special Education services, by sending them glossy flyers about their charter school.

Susan Edelman of the New York Post published an article that shows why the DOE may have violated student privacy rights and both the State and Federal government have initiated an investigation.  On the nyc public school parent blog more information is also available.

The DOE's apparent violation of student privacy rights should result in many resignations at Tweed if the Mayor and Chancellor do their "due diligence".

Chaz you hit the nail on the head yet again. Tweed is the NYC version of The Swamp and the Deep State.

A bit off topic here and I do not live in Wisconsin the cheese state. However, I am thrilled for the people of Wisconsin who finally rid themselves of the Koch Bros loving, union hating sleaze ball Scott Walker. Yes Scott Walker the union hating goon who was a puppet for the Koch Bros.

Glad to see Koch Bros schemes being shoved right back in their face. The people of Arizona as well by a margin of 2-1 rejected any vouchers in the state. This was in response to a dirty sneaky trick by the Koch Bros trying to get/sneak vouchers in the state of AZ but to no avail.

You can fool some of the people some of the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

With the new chancellor comes another level of beauracracy! When does it end? All that money should be going to the schools!!!

They need to get rid of the lawyers, and Field Supervisors.

filed under the category of "what else is new" the age discrimination suit filed by the ATR's has been closed by the NYS division of human rights. "NO PROBABLE CAUSE". I really wasn't expecting much anyway 1. only 34 atr's joined in 2. the lawyers glass krakhead were pretty much useless, they made there 6000 or so and just shuffled papers. 3. NYshitty atr's nuff said!

4:47- My age discrimination suit was also denied by the NYS Division of Human rights. I then filed a lawsuit with my lawyer Mr. Glass and settled with the DOE for a nice piece of change. The NYS Division of Human rights denies everyone, they ask you a million questions give you the oh my that's terrible and then some jerk you never spoke with says "No probable cause ". They are as useless as our Union. At least a Judge saw thru the bullshit. File the suit.

So once again the DOE lies to ATRs. For 10 weeks, in every assignment emailed to us, the end of the rotation date was 11/11/2018. Every week. And now, an email is sent out stating we will stay where we are until 1/27/2019. This is on par with psychological abuse. I'm stuck in a hellhole where ghetto kids are out of control, knowing nothing will happen to them. For weeks I dealt with it, knowing I'd be somewhere else next week. No such luck. Less than 500 kids in the school, yet at least 2 teachers out everyday. I;m the only ATR. Meanwhile, there are schools where 2 or three ATRs sit around with nothing to do. Good for them, but now it continues for another 2 1/2 months, and boredom is the enemy of any job. The UFT is USELESS!

4:03, The same crap happened to me last year. I called and emailed that useless window Sill, hoping to be able to jump to some other sinking ship of a school, to no avail. Good luck.

@7:09 why didn't the shyster glass ever propose a lawsuit if it was a viable option? and why didn't glass just file a class action age suit?

I became an ATR this year do to my school being reorganized and restaffed and my not being a part of the restaffing. Anyway, the school I'm in is good, but I would rather be an appointed teacher in a bad school than a nobody in a good school. It is psychological abuse. I went from being an appointed teacher with 5 classes to someone who just sits and watches kids all day long. I don't have a circular 6, I don't follow curriculum, and my name is not even on the staff list and I don't have a time card. The staff is nice and I have one small class, but I still feel emasculated and powerless and yes, boredom is the worst feeling. Teachers that want to teach should be able to. There should be a program for teachers that want to be an ATR to be able to put themselves in the ATR pool.

@6:02 No cocksucker, I sub. No teaching. About 10% of the time all I do is hand out papers they ignore. The rest of the time it's babysitting thugs on their phones or listening to the "scholars" prattle on about their putrid lives. By the way, get an education. I wrote hellhole, not hell hole, as the former is the proper spelling. And in 6 years, never had a field supervisor. Hopefully you won't have one too in the future (and yes, it will happen.)

They are using the ATR Pool to discriminate against older teachers. It is psychological abuse. The UFT should be blamed.

"There should be a program for teachers that want to be an ATR to be able to put themselves in the ATR pool."

That would be a very small pool. Except for the UFT troll who pops up here now and again to spin fantasy yarns, I've never heard of an ATR who wanted to be an ATR. None of the ATR's at my school has ever been happy to be an ATR.

The UFT is responsible for the attacks on veteran teachers that are veing wasted. They have created an apatheid system.

The UFT wants the ATRs terminated by agreeing to Field Supervisors to harass, and unfairly rate ATRs U. They want to deteriorate our schools more by going after experienced teachers, while hiring less qualified and inexperienced teachers.

You are wrong. When FHS and Dewitt Clinton restaffed, almost half the staff in each school chose to put themselves in the ATR pool by not reapplying. I know plenty people in their last few years who would take the ATR option and many teachers who don't really want to teach anymore but just want to wait until they retire.
