If ATRs Had Their Own Bargaining Unit, They Would Have Voted Overwelmingly No!























The UFT contract easily passed with only school nurses voting against it.  However, if ATRs had their own negotiating unit, they would have overwhelmingly voted no!

Why did ATRs vote no?  Let me count the ways.

  • ATRsa re treated as second class citizens.
  • ATRs are forced placed.
  • ATRs cannot refuse an assignment.
  • ATRs are rotated without consent.
  • ATRs have few opportunities to take per session jobs.
  • ATRs are observed in strange classrooms.
  • ATRs are observed by field supervisors.
  • ATRs have no input in student grades.
  • ATRs are discriminated by the DOE's school-based fair student funding policy.
Now you know why ATRs voted no on the contract.

I guess UFT views ATR situation a victory because we are still working with no changes! "At least you have a job!" That is what ATRs are told by union straight out!

Rotations are less and this is better.

This situation has been going on for more than a decade!

We do not have our own chapter!

Where do we go from here?

The contract passed probably in great part because the veteran teachers, who have more experience evaluating ramifications of bad contracts, have been culled from the herd in the cruel draconian campaign that's been going on since Bloombutt. It also passed because so many teachers, veteran or newbie, don't want to devote the time and care to read the fine print. They see the word "raise" and look no further. Is the raise going to given as an immediate increase? Or is the raise going to be meted out in small percentages over many years, like the last contract, so that any monetary gains are negated by cost of living increases? And, what are the givebacks? Perhaps, having been given such a lousy contract--that incredibly, they still voted for--some teachers will finally wise up and rid themselves of the duplicitous corrupt louses they keep electing into the leadership of the UFT. That's the only way to eventually get a decent and fair contract for the work that they do. Good heavens, the due diligence being performed so far by teachers is no better than one would expect from their students!

More rotations are much better especially in the Bronx where 70% of the schools are complete shit holes. Veteran teachers did not vote for this contract - FSF is still in place and every vet teacher has a target on their back. The UFT is an arm of the DOE and takes orders from everyone, including the CSA , except the rank and file.

poor, poor, atr's now that contract dreams went down the crapper and the buyout was laughted at maybe you crybabies can hope and pray and chant that another buyout will come. lets face it all you do is hope and pray and chant and complain!!

I've never seen a bigger bunch of whiners or b..l S...ters then ATRS.
I say that now that the ink has driedon the contract.
you whine about a field superviser observing you once every two months.
suck it up and put on the dog and pony show.
i know cause i've walked in your shoes.
actually wish i could still wear them since i was too good and got hired recently.

There are many myths in the doe that principals accentuate.

My favorite is that ATRs are the ‘worst of the worst’. Not true.

Any doe teacher can become an atr.

Know the facts.

Can I put in my 30 day notice on the last day of school,collect summer pay,return in Sept with my last day being October 1st and my terminal leave picking up until November?

Why don’t you give notice on sept 1. The supervisors are in early anyway. Just in case

Retire in July so you can get Summer and regular pay.
Use your sick days and collect the money for it it’s about 300 a day.
