The New Action Caucus Contract Proposal Is One We Can All Support.




























After I saw the MORE contract proposal which was strong on civil rights, diversity, and social justice and short on teacher justice, I decided I could not support MORE as they have lurched to the far left and supports many militant far left groups and approves work stoppages and job actions, despite the Taylor law that would cost educators two days pay for every one day of a work stoppage.  As for the mainstream "Unity" caucus?  ou can read it on South Bronx School blog. When it comes to the "Unity" caucus,  I hold little hope that they will negotiate a favorable contract, based on prior negotiated contracts  I don't expect a favorable wage contract with raises ranging from 1% to 2%. . less than the inflation rate.  Moreover, they negotiate secretly, without member input.  I can only hope that the UFT does not allow for any "givebacks" in the next contract.  As for the Educators 4 Excellence (E4E)?  They are a corporate reform "fifth column" and whatever they propose is not worthy for consideration.

That leaves the New Action caucus contract proposal and I liked what they are proposing.  They are strong on teacher justice, want to eliminate fair student funding, the ATR pool, reduce class size, and publicize abusive administrators.  Moreover, they propose raises above the rate of inflation and no "givebacks"!, Finally, they want a six week paid family leave.  Read South Bronx School blog for the actual list of the New Action contract demands.

The bottom line, the New Action contract proposals are teacher friendly and represents the interests of the classroom teacher.  The New Action contract proposal is far superior to the other caucuses and I am thinking strongly of joining the New Action caucus.

No. In tNe last election New Action jointly worked with MORE during the last election and won the high school seats.

We can all support it, but it doesn't mean diddly squat. The UFT will do whatever it feels like. I just got the NY Teacher Lampoon Edition - a fabulous app and discount card!!! What could be better than that! Oh yeah, a big picture of a smiling Mulgrew behind Cuomo signing a bill to ensure those dues keep a flowin'. Rank and file, the UFT will be endorsing the devil for governor and expects you to vote accordingly.

I was in email contact today with someone from NYSUT. I specifically asked if HEDI scores will still be a part of the law in the new Assembly bill. The contact person said that yes, HEDI will still be a part of our evaluations as it will be for all the teachers in New York State. I really think the new assembly bill it bullshit if you ask me. They are taking away "some" testing in our evaluations but there will still be some form of added growth scores that will be a part of our evaluation. However, the real bullshit part is that HEDI is still in the law. The assembly should have written into the law to allow districts to use the old S/U rating system if they want to. As for NYC, the item that needs to be addressed right away during contract negotiations is to kill Danielson and allow tenured teachers to have 2 observations as per NYS law. (That aspect of the law is still on the books and will not be changed with the new law) If Mulgrew drops the ball on Danielson and 2 observations, he will have royally screwed us beyond words and we will have to suffer for years to come. I really hope the Unity folks read these blogs. What NYC teachers want is simple as the light is day. We want to teach in peace and that means no Danielson and it means only having to deal with 2 observations like our fellow teachers throughout NYS.

As long as people continue to vote for Micahel Mulgrew nothing will ever change. Here is a man who does not teach, nor understand what teachers go through on a daily basis. And yet fools keep voting for him.

Who even cares about all these warring factions? The UFT is completely fucked no matter how you look at it. With so many teachers retiring, quitting and recruitment so low, there won't be any members soon enough anyway!

A district rep from the uft came to our school about 2 weeks ago. I had read that Mulgrew was pro-Danielsons. I decided to troll her and say I wish that Danielson's would be replaced and that the old U and S system was better because if a principal wanted to "U" rate you, they had to go through hoops and fill in a lot of paperwork.

You know what her reaction was? She looked st me with condescension in her eyes and told me the old system was terrible and that Danielsons was so much better. I started in the DOE when S and U was still in force. I remember the change to Danielsons. Strange that the old system didn't cause so much stress among the teachers as the current system does.

I am not sure what any of these warring factions do. Personally, I think the city results are going to be screwed unless we act quickly. I propose teacher bonuses and proctor bonuses. We can increase graduation to 90 percent and it is a win-win. I told this to Carmen a few months ago and she pretended not to hear me but came to me later and whispered, "from your mouth to God's ears." She was for it.

As far as diversity goes I talked to my son, DeShawn, and he said, "fuck that shit. I ain't goin to no school with whiteys. Put me in one of those schools and I will get them shut down too." By the way, DeShawn had a standing ovation at the PEP meeting for closing schools. He told Carmen, "I personally have closed two schools and I will close 2 more before I graduate or get thrown out of school. Do not think for one minute shutting down a school will help improve my grades or situation."

That is what the UFT wants. They are collaborating with the DOE in getting rid of experienced teachers. They have become useless.

Cuomo's lead against Cynthia Nixon is down to 22 points 4 months before the primary. Nixon had been down to Cuomo double that just a month ago in a different poll. Latest Q poll has her very strong with "very liberal voters," who will make up a core voting bloc in the 2018 primaty, given the political atmosphere and hatred of Trump on the left.

Cuomo NEEDS the unions for the GOTV. If the UFT ever had leverage over Cuomo, it's now. Notice how the only thing they got out of him was the Janus fix to ensure the dues money keeps rolling in after SCOTUS rules against public unions on mandatory fees?

That's what UFT leadership is about - perpetuating their own perks, privileges and power. They do not care that rank/file are suffering under the odious Danielson drive-by system in the least and will do nothing to end it.

The DOE is serving teachers termination papers without the signature of PEP, violating the due process. NYSUT lawyers are looking the other way.

Class size needs to be below 25 in highschool. They only want to reduce from 34 to 32 that is a small change.

Regarding A-410 Chancellor's Rules and Regulations....

With the adoption of the Collective Bargaining Agreement of October 2018...
do the Chancellor's Rules and Regs change.....

That is...are they updated....

In June 2013 new ones were implemented.....for how long are these effective?
