Bloomberg's Stop And Frisk Policy Caused A Negative Educational Effect on Black Males

Chalkbeat has an article on a study that showed that "Stop and Frisk" under Mayor Michael Bloomberg resulted in a rise in Black  male dropout rates.  The study was for the years 2008 to 2012, when Michael Bloomberg was Mayor and concentrated on middle school students.

The study showed that Black male middle school absences increased by 1..4% in communities where police pushed "stop and frisk" policies.  Moreover, Black high school graduation rates were 1,8% lower in communities where "stop and frisk" were pushed.

One good result was that communities that had a "stop and frisk"  policy had lower disciplinary problems in school.  However, the policy made Black male students feel less safe going and leaving school for their homes.  Moreover, "stop and frisk" seemed to have no effect on felony crime. Read the article Here.

I'm surprised that nobody attacked Bloomberg's record on education after how he decimated the DOE. Since Elizabeth Warren used to be a teacher, I figured she would have pounced all over it.

Bloomberg created an anti-teacher climate, and surrounded himself with crooked lawyers, and investigators.

I'm content he got his ass handed to him yesterday. The guy might be a brilliant money man, but it's easy to see he could never control a city high school class if his life depended on it or relating to the average American voter. He should use his hundreds of millions that he is wasting on something better, but who am I to say? It's his money.

There is a DOE that covers major corruption while they go after honest senior teachers who speak up, and the UFT is useless

I'm surprised nobody brought up Cathie Black. Is this the person you want making decisions for our country?

They do not know how corrupt is TWEED, and how vindicated they are.

We never had a vicious and anti-teacher atmosphere until Bloomberg took over, and destroyed our schools with incompetent Leadership Principals.

Got to disagree. There was a distinct anti-teacher
vein running through Rudy’s administration. Fortunately, he was too involved hiring corrupt police commissioners and taking undue credit for our 9-11 recovery to bother us much

Yes, there was an anti-teacher sentiment in the Giuliani administration and schools did have their problems. But, the schools system and the schools were a lot better. He did not control the school system, the corruption was a lot less and it certainly was not as open and encouraged as it is now, the data was a little more trustworthy, "diplomas for all" did not exist, there were fewer incompetent principals, teachers were a lot more united, there were consequences for violent, disruptive students, there were many more teachers with 30+ years that you could seek out for advice and counsel, etc.

Mayor Bloomberg started the mess we have now. I do not think teachers and the public will ever get an apology out of him for his disdain for NYC DOE public school students and igniting the corrupt money pit we have now.

You have to be out of your mind to even consider Bloomberg for any political position.

The level of viciousness from schools administrators going after teachers with integrity is killing the system.

I think Bloomberg has the only chance of defeating Trump. However, Bloomberg's record on education is a joke. Without cheating we would not have 55 to 60 percent graduating. Bloomberg helped create one of the best cheating systems in the world. Klein was assigned to watch over it. Walcott tried to distract us by banning butter in schools but continued the cheating. Carmen was incompetent and made sure the cheating continued. Our friend Richard is still trying to find equity by going after Asians.

Warren is incompetent. Nobody wants a woman president especially intelligent woman. Dumb ignorant woman and Hillary-lovers just wish they had penises. Amy Klobuchar is an idiot. How these two are in the race is beyond me. We might as well bring back Hillary to destroy the country.

If Bloomberg gets elected educators will be more screwed than having Trump.

@2:08 Thank you for being honest. I like when people don't hide the fact that they clearly hate women.

I think that stop and frisk probably also suppressed African-American and Latino vote.

I wish that people who like Bloomberg in other areas really knew what policies he implemented as mayor and how the policies hurt people. His were the epitome of heartless, legalistic policies, based on flawed "data".

How about Citytime mayor? Ever brag about that fiasco? Who paid for it? Oh, that's right - taxpayers.
