My Predictions For 2018.

Last year I made my 2017 predictions and almost all of them were correct.  You can see them Here.  For example, the ATR situation remains unresolved, the targeting by the DOE of veteran teachers continued unabated, and the union leadership's inaction against vindictive principals. Now its time to predict what happens in 2018

Union leadership:
With the Supreme Court probably ruling that union dues are voluntary in the Janus case this Spring, look for our disconnected union leadership to  put extreme pressure on school Chapter Leaders to push their members to pay their union dues,  Moreover, they will falsely claim that members who do not pay their union dues will be losing valuable union services,  Finally, look for the union leadership to reduce their well- paid patronage jobs as the effects of Janus, the new tax system, and the discontent of the members will mean major belt tightening at the UFT.  Bye, bye patronage jobs.

ATRs:
Look for little change in the ATR situation as few principals are willing to hire veteran teachers when the school based fair student funding stays in effect.  There may be another failed ATR incentive and buyout that will result in few ATRs taking the buyout, unless they are retiring anyway.

DOE:
The double standard in disciplining principals will continue as few principals will be removed, unless the media campaigns for their removal.  Furthermore, with our union not pushing for the removal of vindictive principals, they can continue to rule roughshod on their staff,  Finally, the DOE encourages the removal of veteran teachers by any means possible.  The DOE will still be the enemy when it comes to teaching in the classroom.  Collaboration between the DOE and classroom teachers is only a fantasy.

Chancellor:
I suspect the new Chancellor will come from the ranks of Tweed  and that means the Bloomberg philosophy that permeates the DOE will continue with l;little change. While there may be some cosmetic changes at the top look for school based fair student funding and the Charlotte Danielon rubric to continue.

Will Namita Dwarka, Principal of Bryant HS, Queens NY, post a sign on her butt "FREE MEAT" ?

Danielson not going anywhere- so quit dreaming.

Chaz, you really think Danielson will still be here after the next contract? Our observation system here in NYC is a nightmare and every single teacher hates it. Don't you think the UFT might get us something better considering that Janus is right around the corner and dues will most likely become optional? I for one know this is the make or brake issue with me in regard to if I am going to pull my dues.

Danielson will remain in force until and unless the union leadership starts listening to the members.

Is Namita Dwarka from WC Bryant still donking Howie Kwait ?? Two disgusting humans getting it on ...ohhhh yeaaaaaaa!

We should demand the removal of Danielsons or else.
Blackmail.
Works every time. And the UFT couldn't deserve it more.

If Danielson stays, I am not going to pay dues anymore. Plain and simple. It is a no brainer. I am too old and miserable in my career right now to continue to support my own pain and suffering.

That is what our Union wants to get rid of older teachers.

The Chancellor likes people that bring schools to the grpund.

So you think there will be an ATR buyout? What does a serious ATR buyout look like Chaz?

I agree with 5:07. Danielsons or union dues.

The whole Danielsons process is so stupid.

1) 4+ observations for effective teachers?
2) Unannounced (for what, gotchas?)
3) "Looking at only some components" during a visit? Who can plan for everything?
4) Admins can circle boxes on the rubric at whim - ripe for abuse.
5) Those awful debriefs that are like psychological torture.
"So teacher, what would you have done differently... Explain your groups..."
6) Other things are not rated, such as timeliness, professional attitude, neatness of class, etc like they used to be. Now it all rides on 'ten minute snapshots.'

I could go on, but you get the point. Eliminate Danielsons!

People quitting, not retiring need a much better deal as they would not be getting pension for a while, and when they d, it would be tiny, no medical, etc...

They can blatantly lie. At my school that's what they do. They write down things that are packs of lies with NO evidence. And the UFT acts helpless. Do you see the bullshit clearly? Partners. One takes a swing at you, knocks you down, then the other one comes over and kicks you.
Then they write s few letters full of lies. And voila, the teacher is now ready for 3020a.
Luckily for me, my principal also retaliated against me for filing an APPR complaint so now I get to file a PERB complaint against her. And I did.

My prediction is you will all still cry like babies. everything will stay the same and you all will bend over and take it.

Buyout in 2019 not 2018 according to ATR supervisors. ATR supervisor also wants buyout to retire and is waiting for buyout.

Our UFT thinks is the best system.

I have to agree with Chaz
I don't see Danielson going anywhere ...much as I would like it to die a public and embarrassing death.
I think the new chancellor will be even worse than Farina.
Definitely more veteran teachers will be harrassed out, children will become far more
unruly and most - - maybe all - - schools will have metal detectors.
Dist. 26 will be decimated by the supt and deputy sup't
Even though contract talks have begun, no new contract will be reached until 2021/22.
I hope to got Janus will not destroy us but I do think it's a very real possibility.
I will vote "no" on any and every contract put before me unless TRUE respect, dignity and honor
(my lesson plans TRULY my format, NO unit plans, disciplinary code brought back and
enforced, new amd fair rating system created)

P.S. I am no newbie and I am a Unity member.

Ridiculous

2) Unannounced (for what, gotchas?)
I don't mind unannounced obs. I prefer them. I prefer to not have to put on a dog and pony show.

3) "Looking at only some components" during a visit? Who can plan for everything?
no one that's why its espoused.
My AP writes up obs...MONTHS after the the post ob.

4) Admins can circle boxes on the rubric at whim - ripe for abuse.
rampant abuse. disgraceful

5) Those awful debriefs that are like psychological torture.
"So teacher, what would you have done differently... Explain your groups..."
"explain your groups" HATE that one..."well I put children who sit next to each other in a group together so that they could all be mediocre together. That way they're not rioting with friends, dry humping or hanging from the ceiling which is what they would be doing if I let them choose their own groups.)

6) Other things are not rated, such as timeliness, professional attitude, neatness of class, etc like they used to be. Now it all rides on 'ten minute snapshots.'
meh. neatness of class annoyed me. I shared with two slobs.

I could go on, but you get the point. Eliminate Danielsons!

And adopt a rule that NO ONE can BEGIN taking classes to become a supervisor/administrator unless he/she/it has a minimum of 10 years teaching experience.

"Danielson will remain in force until and unless the union leadership starts listening to the members."

Members need to elect new leadership and oust these double pension collecting, self-serving tools.

No one, higher than chapter leader level (and even in most cases no chapter leader) is worth jack spit and/or cares about the members anymore.

Always pushing the Unity agenda: Danielson, unit plans, DeBlasio, charter schools, a UFT charter school

Teaching is no longer a profession it's a perversion.

Amen to that.

When I retire (got less than 10 years) I never ever every want to see the inside of a classroom again.
I won't even enter a school unless it's to vote.

7:44 from your lips to God's ears! I will not vote for any contract that keeps Danielson in place but the Younguns' and the Unity Sheeple and the regular old disgruntled but too lazy to do anything about it sheeple will vote "yes" because they all drink the UNITY Kool-Aid.
Then there is the crowd who doesn't vote who thinks that they are "rebelling."
Vote "no" if you don't like the contract. Vote "no" if you don't understand it and ESPECIALLY when your leadership talks in circles instead of answering your questions...and ESPECIALLY if your questions are dismissed entirely.
The UFT Executive Board doesn't give a fat rat's about you. Make them work for those positions to which they were elected and then Kick them out on their cans when re-election time comes around ESPECIALLY if you're given a S&*^ contract!
I suspect this upcoming (in 5years ha ha ha though it's more of a cry than a laugh) contract will be the last one of my career. I already know what I'm doing...
