The City And DC37 Agree To A New Contract.

The City and DC37 have agreed to a new 44 month (3.67 years) contract that includes a 7.4% raise for the length of the contract.  That equals to  an equivalent of a  2% annual raise (inflation is estimated to be 3% during this time period).  The annual raise is about what I expected.  However, it appears the Municipal unions will be giving the City more health care "givebacks" by saving the City  $1.5 billion dollars.

The 44 month contract breaks down as follows:

Year........................Raise
1................................2%
2................................2.25%
3................................3%

This contract with DC37, the largest municipal union means that a "pattern" has been established and we can expect a similar raise for the UFT.

Unlike the UFT,  DC37 is getting family leave , not parental leave like the UFT obtainedThat is similar to what UUP received and didn't have to give back 73 days to achieve their 2% annual raises.

How can we give givebacks on healthcare? As it is, doctors are dropping GHI because they can't afford to pay their rent with the measly reimbursements that GHI allots.
They haven't increased their payouts in decades.

No givebacks Mulgrew or I'm out and I give myself $1450.

They couldn’t wait for the police?
No more freaking insurance givebacks.
Happy summer vacation.

9:43, I'd actually rather pay a modest amount into our plan if it meant a better selection of doctors who will actually be paid. What doctor wants to be paid peanuts?

I would gladly take that. If we get less then I'm assuming Mulgrew made a secret deal to take less in exchange for parental leave and hid it from us . We also need to reach top salary in 15-16 years like all other teachers. But that's just wishful thinking. Heck, let's hit top salary as fast as cops do, haha.

to 9:43 -- There are doctors who do not take Medicare because of the low reimbursements, not just GHI.

GHI has been crappy insurance for many years. I remember the joke was that if you had GHI, you sent them money.

When I started teaching, teachers had Blue Cross and Blue Shield but those insurances were lost to teachers in the money starved Seventies.

I was once read that without the city contributions GHI would have been out of business.

The plans that have more choices cost a fortune. Nothing in the middle.

Why do we have to have any "give backs?" Are we thieves who stole from the city or something?

Do we not perform an essential public service too? We are tasked to care for and educate everybody's children for goodness' sake.

How many times do we "give back" before there is nothing left to give and no one goes into teaching anymore?

Why are infantilized, micromanaged and treated like first year teachers no matter how much experience we have?

Why do we need 4 observations or more? Didn't we go through the hoops of years of education, licensing, testing, interviewing, background checks and demo lessons to prove we got the chops?

Why are we no longer listened to by our admins and blamed for society's ills and forced to endure layer upon layer of 'coaches,' 'consultants, 'PDs' and endless conferences, goal making, and meetings?

I have less than six years to go of this new educational 'reform' world. I cannot wait to get out!

We win!! I want out of UFT now! How to opt out as of todays date? I WANT OUT NOW!!

Unhappy opt out for real change . Is it true what I am hearing that suburban locals are signing up people only for their locals with no reference to state or national affiliates. Based on what was in the decision it seems that as a member if you do not expressly give permission your money cannot be kicked upstairs and will stay with the local Sounds like a plan
